American Poppy

poppies
I am not a British soldier
American am I
I fought for right and justice
I did not want to die

Wars are not for winning
Men can only lose
Fighting wars solves nothing
Just gives us the blues

We fought and won the battle
But here I now must lie
Side by side with comrades
Beneath a foreign sky

Weep not for me my loved ones
Be proud of what I’ve done
Just make to me this promise
Then my battles won

Scatter seeds of poppies in fields of golden corn
Then I shall be remembered whenever they may bloom
I would not shirk my duty I must make that plain
For my people and my homeland I would die again
