Writer from NY. My latest novel. Unlikely Hero will be released by IFWG because of problems 2013 (sorry). It is available at both Amazon (Kindle) Barns and Nobel (nook).
A shrinking Atlantic allows for some unusual family situations that border on the macabre.
Set in the late seventies, the Ahern brothers raised in the turmoil of Northern Ireland have followed very different paths. The Eldest, with the help of friends escaped to America; his natural ability in electronics in the growing age of computers allowed him to carve out a financial empire. The Youngest, the victim of treachery put this schooling to his advantage by becoming a paid killer. Only the middle brother married, his wife bore a son eight months after his death.
That child, Garth Ahern, believes he is predestined to die in prison like his father. He has reached the age of nine convinced of this by the screeches of an abusive mother and the condemnation of an old priest. Deprived of a daddy, the boy needed a hero.
Alex Cahill lives a double life as a news reporter and a paid assassin. He has no reservations about killing anyone for money, and does so many times in different circumstances. So his unusual concern when he accidentally injures a child surprises his cohorts.
Revenge is best savored when it’s no longer expected, describes the plot behind the story as there are a number of angry people in this tale of murder with a sufficient reason to commit the crimes.
IFWG released my chap ebook on Amazon for Kindle. To The Battle Born. and it is now available on Barnes & Nobel's Nook.
“Sure,“ the old fellow said. “Hot wars and cold wars…the only difference comes in the cost of lives or equipment.”
Chapter 1
Alex Cahill took pleasure in watching the sly grin play around Major Lawford’s usually stern features.
“Cahill, I understand you’ve won the spin of the bottle. Hopefully the locals will put on a good show for you tonight.”
Glancing at his watch he considered the ridiculousness of the date flashing beneath the time, if he didn’t know it was 1980, five after ten on the evening of the first of April, he was in deep trouble. Cahill feigned nervousness. He suspected the commander of the First Battalion of the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment figured the newsman would be looking for an easy way out and that was what caused the smile to intensify as the Major went on.
“This evening you should have an interesting walk about. The gunmen are shooting out there already. We’ll give you a full uniform and grease for your face so you can go with the men on foot patrol. How appropriate that an American pressman discovers what a British soldier goes through here. It may change some of the nonsense you blokes’ write.”
Cahill nodded, then turned quickly on his heel to confront the Lieutenant who came up behind him carrying the uniform. He passed it to Cahill and lifted his shoulders in a pronounced shrug. “Saturday,” he said. “But it won’t matter. Shooting incidents take place in the Ardoyne seven nights a week. If our luck holds they won’t detonate a bomb.”
The Devil Came East was published by IFWG in December 2010. It is available at Barnes & Nobel, Nook, Amazon and Kindle.
Had Dr. Neil Harris, a sincere, genuine psychiatrist and radio talk show host, not become concerned, the killing rampage of the devil might have gone unnoticed. Perhaps, the authorities would have never discovered the trail of bodies in his wake. The young women who died might have been destined to be no more than a statistic, one among a number of tragic deaths of girls who'd lost their will to live, among the masses of New York City.
The devil disguised his crimes well until Neil mentioned his concerns to his long time friend, Detective Sergeant Joseph Farley of the 21st precinct of the NYPD. From his conversation with Neil, Farley decides to delve into what turns out to be a string of killings by a serial killer, knowing neither remorse nor fear.
Joe Farley and his men strive to catch the devil before he strikes again or escapes to hunt victims in another locale, while they face personal problems and the politics of the city of New York.
The devil targets his next victim....
