A Letter to my Son

0

My Dearest Son, I thought about what you said all the way home.  My son, you are right where you are meant to be. You are not even one day behind.  You are so much farther than so many young men your age. You have so much going for you my son.

I am so very proud of you.
At 18 years old you came to Arizona alone with no support from anyone. I can still remember the last time I spoke with you before you left to move here. Some conversations mothers just don’t forget. I still remember you asking me on the phone to go to Arizona with you for just three days because you didn’t want to venture into a new place alone. But you did. I am so proud of you for that.

Location, Location, Location - graduateLet me just remind you of a few things I am grateful for.  A few things I thank God for.

#1  You have never been arrested. To some, this may seem like an easy feat. But, we know better. You are a black man under 35 who grew up with a heroin-addicted mother and a dope dealer as a father.

To which both parents were in and out of prison your whole childhood. You were a lookout man for your mother as she boosted out of high-end department stores to feed her habit and you at the young age of 8. You spent your high school years smack dab in the middle of Compton. A city known for gang violence and you never even sagged your pants. Back to #1, you have never been arrested.

I am so very proud of you…….
#2 At 18 years old you moved here with less than $300.00 no job and no family. Because of the move you made you paved the way to one day save the life of your own mother and provide a home base for your entire family to mend.  You have made it possible for your younger brother to break out of foster care and have a family he only talked to on the phone On Rare Occasions.

We are so very thankful to you.
#3 You provided a safe haven for your sister, aunt, cousin, and mother and you are still reaching out for your other sister.

We are all so grateful to you…..
Yes, my son, you are right where God wanted you to be. Yes, my son he knows that we would not be here had it not been for you. God knew you were strong enough to pave the way for your entire family that’s why he placed you in my stomach first. Now is your time. After all the important things you have done to shape our lives don’t you know that you are the bigger picture..

I am so proud of you….
I am sure that God knew just when to send you back to school. Just like he knew when to place Divya in your life. He knew she would give you that balance and drive you needed to work and go to school full time so that you can be right where you are meant to be.

My son, I am so very proud of you and you are right where you are meant to be. At the top of your class…
Love mamma………
