Give New Authors A Chance
Give New Authors A Chance
Like many of you, I was once a reader who only read certain books by specific authors. It was not until I decided to become a writer myself that I came to realize that just because the author is not well known does not mean that he or she is not a great storyteller.
After having the good fortune of getting to know several small press authors and publishers, I have come to find that some of their books are the best that I have ever read.
Many think that small press publishers are not as good as the big guys, but that’s just not true. No, you may not walk into the local Barnes & Noble and see my books right beside some of the bigger names, but it is only a matter of time. Our books are available at places like amazon.com and Fictionwise, which is a division of Barnes & Noble.
A writer has to start somewhere, right? In all honesty, a lot of us are happy and have had great success with our small publisher and never submit to the larger publishers again.
Of course, I have submitted to the big-time pubs and like many before me, I was shot down by it because of word count or something else that they did not think was right for them. However, I have come to find that the personal attention that I receive from my small press pub is invaluable and possibly not available from another, bigger publisher. It is the family-like atmosphere that comes with being a member of a small publisher that helps us become happy, successful authors.
So, the next time you feel the need for a new book, instead of buying that one author that you have been reading for so long, help yourself to one that you haven’t as well. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
