Can you laugh today without feeling guilty? Feelings of guilt come and go, but it is not healthy to keep thinking about them, especially today.
Why do we laugh? Could it be to attract and nourish relationships, share meanings and understanding, making ourselves and others feel better? Yes, laughing is healing.
Humor is good for the soul. It is healthy to smile and look at the world with colored lenses. I read a joke the other day. It was about a woman who was complaining to her mom about being quarantined and how her washer was shrinking all her clothes. After a while, she called her mom back and told her, “Mom, I finally figured out my washer was not ruining my clothes; it was my ungodly refrigerator!”

Youth and aging are equally both a joy and a burden. If you are a Babyboomer born between 1946 and 1964, the key to a longer life span is paying devout attention to the two L’s – Lifestyle and Luck. Clinical psychologists are using humor as a treatment to increase subjective well-being and self-confidence.
Waking up every day doing what you can, will keep your body and mind creative and joyful. And, sorry for this cliche, but “If you don’t use your mind – you will eventually lose it.” If we feel like you have learned everything you want to know, it seems your only real problem for the future will be in – remembering it.

- I don’t have to go to school or work.
- I get an allowance every month.
- I have my own pad.
- I don’t have a curfew.
- I have a driver’s license and my own car.
- And I don’t have acne.
Life is Good!
Scientists believe people do not decline mentally with age. It just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains… Humans do take longer to access information when their brains are full. Researchers say this slowing down process is not the same as cognitive decline…The brains of older people do not get weak. They simply know more.
By the time we get older, we are adorned with silver in our hair, gold in our teeth, and lead in our bottoms. So what if by old age, we have achy-breaky joints that scream out for spent cartilage. Steroids help us with that dilemma. And, so what if we click and clack with pain when our bodies won’t do what we want? Memory storage is not a problem for me. Memory retrieval is.
As a writer and poet, I’ve found that exercise, in combination with computer use, can prevent memory loss from slowing down.
Because of those like me who have glaucoma, many of us are looking at the world a little obscured. Additionally, those of us with hearing problems rarely understand what is being spoken. These disabilities isolate us. So what if we are grumpy, misunderstood, or non-communitive? And, so what if my blouse was inside-out all day? Teenagers and young people are wearing pants with holes in them – on purpose.
Professor Janet M. Gibson, at Grinnell College, advises us, “Wisdom is a form of reasoning that increases with age and is correlated with subjective well-being…Humor is linked with wisdom—a wise person knows how to use humor or when to laugh at oneself.” An unwise person laughs at others, never at himself. This is the absurdity of the universe.
