Turning The Corner
Turning The Corner
To die, in the Dutch vernacular,
Is to “exit the pipe” or “turn the corner”
There is no popping-off clogs
Only a matter of fact
To mollify the mourner.
No Dutch courage either
To help accept the human condition
Wittgenstein’s ‘death is not a fact of life’
Goes unchallenged amid
Po-faced pragmatism.
Showy individualism
Is in folklore a capital offence
Placing your head above the cornfield
Invites the reaper’s revenge
Building a life takes decades
But is gone in a second
As life wears on
Memory wears out
Of you, the lively one.
