Three Words: I Love You
Three Words: I Love You
These three words are all we’ve got
To convey the force of love.
No matter which phrase you concoct
It will fail to match the above.
Subject and object held in place
By the verb’s powerful attraction.
Like planets in a star’s embrace
Grammar is gravity’s action.
So don’t be fooled by books of rules
About syntax and past tenses.
Complexity looms once love cools
And words ring hollow or pensive.
Intonation defines intent
Whatever truth you try to hide.
I love you can only have sense
When spoken from deep inside.
Hi Mark, another piece of genius. Love is a gift we give ourselves.
Dear Joyce,
Thanks for your kind words and interest in my work.
Hope all’s going well with your projects!
Regards,
Mark
