The Superhero
JOSH
In the maelstrom of his mind
Josh believed he was a superhero
Lawless in local terms
He was driven by the demands
Of his disturbed intelligence
Setting fire to normality
With his speed of thought
Crushing gainsayers
In the vice 0f his complete
Absence of self-doubt
Josh was always right
Playing the role
Of the swashbuckling petty criminal
on a slippery slope
A gun-toting defender of the faith
Dealing in drugs or scrap metal
When half the town was chasing him
Josh was covered in mud
Fishing coins from under the pier
For lobster and champagne later
Topped by a contented smile
He couldn’t help but be himself
Destined to die from an overdose
Quietly in his bed.
