The Silence of the Night

The Silence of the Night

I wake,
my eyes still closed, and
listen to the silence of the night.
Your breath surrounds me
with soft memories, until
my body
remembers its demands.

On the Abitibi,
in the gentle mist,
our canoe rocking:
lapped by laughter and
the love of youth.

Now,
it is best
we stay on the land
with safety closer at hand.
