NYC Blessing of Bikes
In front of a Cathedral
a Reverend appears
curious reporters listen –
Is it the bike or the rider
blessed?
In the spirit – it’s the body
of Christ.
Riders linger as if to see a
spirit rise among them…
A child, one leg –
hobbles on his crutches
a roller skate –
one leg blessed
his mode of transportation.
Then – as if God called –
With all their bikes – inside
of the Cathedral –
A blessing of ones’ child.
Will the Reverend, Father, Priest…
pours holy water over –
handle bars?
Thank you, Nancy, for your fine and always-memorable work.
Hi Andrew, thank you. I wrote this when a friend requested that I write (fast) about his photos, which are located on the web. I will look up the address in my files and add them to the comment section. One group was on the homeless, and the other on the Blessing of the Bikes. His photos were so detailed it was easy to write about each one. Thanks again, Nancy

If you check out these sites you will find some fast writing from the photography of Harry Peronius who asked me to add words to his marvelous work. Look for Blessing of the Bikes and Homeless – and a few others. Sincerely, Nancy
I enjoyed this post, Nancy. Loving bicycles and motorcycles so much, I have written poems devoted to them, I am glad they are getting blessed. Lord knows that many people in cages, as in inside something on wheels, pay those on bicycles and motorcycles too little regard. For Celebrating National Poetry Month every Saturday in Saratoga Springs, NY, I am proud to have a juried motorcycle poet who brings his beautifully designed and painted motorcycle to every Saturday’s event. Last Saturday, Biker Poet, Tim Schneider, was one of our feature poets and he is a most thoughtful and exciting poet the feedback I received said people really enjoyed and asked me if he would be back next wee, our last week, on Saturday, April 28th at Feneex Boutique at 30 Beekman Street, Saratoga Springs, NY, owned by Francelise Dawkins, also a poet who will be a feature next Saturday.
Thanks Barbara – and yes, I believe those who are riding on motorcycles are those from my own generation. They are those who perhaps were once the hippies of another era, and then turned – “Doctor, lawyer, Indian Chief,” but wanted to return to the reckless youth in another generation. Thanks, Sincerely, Nancy
