In The Desert

The searing morning sun
salutes a sultry, emerging breeze
wafting through the oasis garden.

The Zephyr swirls and merges
with wispy plumes of wood-smoke
and the heady scent of incense,
adrift from the lingering caravan.

The fire crackles, the meal sputters,
Soon, tea sweetened with honey
will relieve parched throats.

The melodious notes of song ascend
to greet a circling hawk, far above,
and embrace the day with thankful joy.

Beyond the momentary camp,
the shimmering dunes await travelers
on the long road that leads homeward.
