Good Girl, Dumb Boy

Good Girl, Dumb Boy

Good Girl, Dumb Boy

She was beautiful and he loved her.
He tried to tell her, but couldn’t.
Then on the final day at college, he told her.

She beamed and they walked hands in hands
by the sea and made gentle love under the moon,
the waves tickling their struggling feet.

He wrote letters;
she replied sometimes.

flowers in hand
and wedding proposal on his mind.

But she couldn’t recognize him as a
drunken man pulled her in,
abusing him.
He couldn’t see her tears.
