Alliteration is My Friend

A Poem Not by Amanda Gorman

Alliteration is My Friend

Alliteration is My Friend

I keep my rhythm strict in time,
I make sure that my endings rhyme.
I write about the things I know,
From thought to thought, ideas flow.

Alliteration is my friend,
But only when I need to send
A trail of thoughts to make a point,
That otherwise would seem disjoint.

Without my voice to make them known,
My words must on their own be shown
To need no gestures, waving hands,
To prove their point, to take a stand.

And so this poem, sweet and short,
Be unperformed, a modest sort
To simply sit on Angie’s page,
Her author happy here backstage.
