Your Horoscope Diet

When it comes to diets, there are a lot out there. It’s hard to decide which one might be right for you, especially if, like most of us, you happen to enjoy eating.

After all, everything else we humans seem to enjoy “isn’t good for us” — smoking, drinking, even caffeine. And even after we’ve been brave enough to dismiss at least one of those habits from our lives, chances are good that we’ll need to do something about what we eat next, because any change in habits usually means a change in our diet, too.

Keeping all that in mind, it might be a good idea to take a look at the myriad of popular diets out there and give you at least a hint as to which might be easiest for you to choose and stick to.

But remember that this is merely a guideline. If a diet not listed under your sign sounds good, check it out. It may be that you have another key astrological planet or point in that sign. (Remember, too, to check with your physician before you start any diet, especially if you have special health needs or considerations.) Regardless of which you choose or how you make your decision, once you’ve started, stick with it. A few weeks and a couple of inches will do wonders for the most important thing of all: your attitude!

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) — The Atkins Diet

This diet seems tailor-made for Aries individuals. First of all, it’s often described as perfect for “people who are willing to exercise in combination with dieting,” and with all that red-hot energy you folks are famous for, exercise not only isn’t a problem — it’s a given. Your lifestyle probably provides you with more daily “incidental” exercise than most of us get when we’re working consciously at it for a full week — and that’s not to mention your innate love of adrenaline.

TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) — Glycemic Index

Sugar… It’s delightful, delicious, and de-lovely — and “owned” by Venus, the loveliest, sweetest planet of all, which just so happens to be your ruling planet. That said, be careful of how much sugar you ingest — candy bars, pastries, and even alcohol. For that reason, this is the diet for you. It’s often recommended for diabetics (types 1 and 2). It’s designed to balance your carbs, proteins, and fats with your sugar intake — and in the process, it gives you the energy you need to exercise while you’re working toward your weight-loss goal.

GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) — Weight Watchers

There aren’t too many signs as famous for their gift of gab, or their knack for socializing with absolutely anyone under absolutely any circumstances. You, Gemini, hold the record — it’s uncontested. So when it comes to choosing a diet, you definitely won’t want to do it alone, and Weight Watchers is the diet for you. So while you’re busy counting calories and pounds as they melt away, you’ll also be busy mixing and mingling. Sounds more like an ongoing party than a torture test, doesn’t it?

CANCER (June 21 to July 22) — Nutrisystem

You, Cancer, are “The Caretakers.” You’re terrific at it, but often not as good at taking care of yourself, so this is definitely the diet plan for you. Food is delivered to your home, requires a minimum of preparation, and can be customized according to either your personal preferences or health-related issues. It’s a time-saver, too — and are there any Cancers on the planet who don’t need an extra 45 minutes every day?

LEO (July 23 to Aug. 22) — The Mediterranean Diet

You’re a fire sign, Leo, and as such, not notoriously patient. So any diet that guarantees results in less than a week … well, that’s definitely going to catch your eager eye. In addition to providing results so quickly– which is all you really needed to hear — the 6-Day Body Makeover also gives you another wonderful fire-sign gift: the inspiration to exercise, something every fire sign needs. That goes double for you, Leo. With all that fire you’re packing, if anyone needs an outlet for that energy, it’s you and your fire-sign cousins. Give this one a try. If nothing else, you’ll love seeing results on your rapid-fire schedule.

VIRGO (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22) — The French Women’s Diet

According to diet experts, French women manage to stay svelte and stylish by doing something that Americans definitely don’t do: They eat small portions, never skip meals, choose their food carefully and take their time. They also never, ever eat “on the run.” Basically, they have the concept of eating to live (while enjoying it) down to a science, even if they dine at 10 and have wine with every meal. For all those reasons, the French Women’s Diet definitely belongs to the precise, meticulous, self-disciplined Virgo.

LIBRA (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22) — The Zone

You’ve probably not ever read this about yourself before, Libra, but contrary to popular opinion, you’re not the sign that specializes in being balanced — your job is to restore balance. So a diet that allows you to do that for your health and your body … well, that’s the one for you, and The Zone is perfect. It’s all about balance: your mission is to be sure that your daily intake includes 40 percent carbs, 30 percent protein, and 30 percent fat. In fact, it’s been touted as one of the only diets that really do promote moderation.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 to Nov. 21) — The Sonoma Diet

You, Scorpio, adore physical pleasures — which include food, of course. You also hate feeling deprived of your desires. That makes dieting tough — so The Sonoma Diet is absolutely tailor-made for you. First, it doesn’t make you feel as if you’re dieting. That’s a plus. It’s described as focusing on food enjoyment and flavor! It also allows you the luxury of choosing from ten power foods, too — and “power anything” is right up your alley. Definitely check this one out.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21) — Fat Flush

Every sign in the zodiac has one particular part of the body that belongs to them. Aries, the first sign, “owns” the head, Taurus rules the throat, and Pisces, the last sign, is in charge of the feet. You, Sag, hold jurisdiction over the thighs and hips — which makes this definitely the diet for you. The Fat Flush specializes (according to nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D.) in ridding fat from the hips, thighs, and waist … in two weeks. Why, that even works for your innate fire-sign lack of patience!

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19) — The Grapefruit Diet

If there’s anybody out there who eats to live instead of living to eat, it’s you. You also have more willpower than at least nine of the other signs put together. For those reasons, to start with, this diet is perfect for you. Lots of folks would avoid a diet based on one particular food like the plague, but you won’t mind a bit — especially since this diet has been around for 70 years … and you know how you feel about resilience.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18) — The Cabbage Soup Diet

A quick review of this diet proves that it’s absolutely perfect for anyone who’s ready to completely change their lifestyle, do it for a short, intense time, and expect quick results. Talk about a match made in heaven! In fact, many reviewers describe it as a rather odd, unusual, and even “off the wall” way to lose weight. The key is to use this as a one-week, quick solution –say, to get yourself into a special outfit, via an entirely new daily routine, including food, exercise, and temporarily putting aside those little extravagances you often reward yourself with.

PISCES (Feb. 19 to March 20) — Bob Greene’s Diet

This diet seems just perfect for you, Pisces. First of all, it’s based on helping you to take control, not just physically, but emotionally as well. Now, you’re a water sign, and water equals emotions, so it’s a good bet that when you’re stressed or unhappy, you may turn to food for comfort. This diet — according to its founder, Bob Greene — prompts you to take a look at the role your feelings play in your weight-loss struggle, and to uncover and understand the emotional triggers that add those unwanted pounds. Greene also provides tips on how to sneak a bit of exercise into your life, gradually increasing it until you’re not only used to it but enjoying it.
