Behold and Believe
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but society would have us believe that it can be measured in inches and pounds.
Women are constantly bombarded by society’s standard of beauty from clothes to make-up and every in between. Even the most confident woman can be plagued with self-doubt in regards to how they measure up and we are often our toughest critics!
It’s so easy to get caught up in the trap of comparing ourselves to other women. Often, females in the public eye would appear to be flawless. Ask any woman to tell you what they don’t like about themselves and a reply would be given in a nanosecond. However, most women find it hard to quickly answer what they would deem beautiful.
It’s much easier to obsess over all surface details.
Is my hair too frizzy?
Too curly?
Am I too skinny?
Too thick?
Is my make-up too bold?
Can I wear this dress or this jeans?
And on and on and on!
Men, this is why it takes us so long to get ready. We not only want to look and feel beautiful…we want you to think we are as well.
There are two sets of three-word phrases guaranteed to warm a woman’s heart and soul: ‘I love you,’ of course, and, ‘You are beautiful’.
But, the most important three-word phrase for every woman should be: ‘I am beautiful.’
No matter your physical appearance, every woman should wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and say those three words. Some mornings it may be harder to believe than others, but that doesn’t change the truth. True beauty is more than skin deep…more than the perfect dress size. It is a woman confident in who she is and what she has to offer to those around her. True beauty is a woman who understands it is not her outward traits, but her inner spirit that will ultimately draw people in.
The truth is, we are all beautiful, despite of…no…because of our flaws. Every woman has some imperfection to obsess over. Just like Terrah, the heroine in my contemporary erotic romance, Ample Delights, who never imagined a sexy model surrounded by gorgeous models would embrace her curves. She almost lets old insecurities and other people’s opinions get in the way of her happiness.
So many of us do the same thing!
We give those around us the power to tear down or build up our self-confidence when the very word reminds us only we should have that control. Break away from those unable to appreciate how amazing you are. Stop listening to those that would have you doubt yourself.
Embrace and love who you are no matter what anyone else thinks. Behold and believe in the beauty that is you.
