Proud son of Puerto Rican parents, multi-published author R.M. Garcia was born in New Jersey. A Paul Collins interview.

Tell us about your background. Who you are, where you are from?
I was born and raised mainly in New Jersey. I am of Puerto Rican descent. I have been writing since I was a teen but never got serious about it until much later in life. I poured a lot into my first book which initial was a short story.

RM-GarciaWhat themes does your book explore and what do you hope the readers will take away from the experience? Is there a particular feeling or experience that you hope to evoke in the reader?
There is a strong romance in my book, a love that transcends time itself. I am hoping that the reader becomes immersed in the lovers struggle to stay together. I want them to feel their despair and joys along with the characters.

What prompted you to be an author and did you have a specific inspiration in mind? Did a certain person, artist, or genre influence you?
I have always been a writer from a young age, but I kept my works to myself, I decided to become an author at the urging of a friend who read the short story that The Foundlings was based on. I was also sick and tired of what in my opinion were substandard vampire books/movies. So, I decided to write something as good as or better than the vampire stories/movies of the 1980s and ‘90s, which in my opinion were the best. Lost Boys anyone?

If you could compare your book to any other existing works, which ones would it be and why?
I would compare my work to a cross in between The Lost Boys and The Da Vinci Code. I would make this comparison because I feel the story has a grittiness that mirrors the Lost Boys, and there is a deep religious mystery that the reader gets to experience as well.

Tell us about your latest work and what inspired you.
I am currently working on Book 6 of The Foundlings series. This book will end the primary arc comprising of the story of Donnie and Abbie. I am hoping that the reader will truly enjoy the love story, and not feel that it is a farce like other vampire franchises of late.
