An interview with Jodie Pierce, by Paul Collins
Tell us about your background. Who you are, where you are from?
I am from Lakewood, Ohio and have married the man of my dreams. I currently have 10 published books both traditionally published and self-published. I even have a charity book called In Vein where all proceeds from the book will go to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and it is an anthology with various other Author participation. I am currently working on another charity book, 2 actually through my facebook group Supernatural Writer’s Group, both books proceeds going to The National Children’s Cancer Center (it’s divided by age groups). I am a paranormal/romance writer, but I just put out my first paranormal/crime/thriller which was fun and an exciting challenge for me. The name of the book is Crime Bites, and So Do I. It was exciting to see how it evolved. I love trying new things.
What themes does your book explore and what do you hope the readers will take away from the experience? Is there a particular feeling or experience that you hope to evoke for the reader?
Jodie Pierce- I write paranormal books, and I don’t really have a theme but there are aspects in my books that I hope people pick up on and realize it’s okay to do some of these things (ex. bi-sexuality, mushy romance, strong heroines, etc).
What prompted you to be an author and did you have a specific inspiration in mind? Were you influenced by a certain person, artist, or genre?
I have been writing since I was in middle school. At first it was all mushy childhood romance. It wasn’t until I read Anne Rice and Christine Feehan that I found my current direction. I’ve always been fascinated by vampires, and when I read The Vampire Lestat and Blackwood Farms by Anne Rice, I knew I was supposed to take my love for vampires and start writing in that direction. When I read a Christine Feehan book, it gave me the inspiration I needed to try erotic vampire novella’s, as well. So I guess you could say they were my inspiration.
If you could compare your book to any other existing works, which ones would it be and why?
I don’t really feel comfortable comparing my books to any famous Authors. I don’t feel I’ve reached their status, and it would be downgrading my idol’s work to compare it to mine at this point. Who knows, one day maybe I’ll achieve their success…I hope!
Tell us about your latest work and what inspired you.
Well, I have two, In Vein, my charity book and Crime Bites and So Do I (see above). I always just loved the St. Jude’s commercials. They just really touched me so I wanted to do something to help them out and I figured putting together this book would do just that. As far as the second book, I wanted to write a police vampire book, so I researched the heck out of police stuff and the book just evolved into a paranormal/crime/thriller. It was also the longest book I’ve written so I’m pretty proud of it.
