Interview with Paige Agnew
I’d like to introduce you to Paige Agnew – she has written a mystery and suspense fiction book for teens that talks about seven strangers are thrown together to be pawns in a psycho’s mind game, they realize that they have to work together to reach their true potential or it could very well mean their death.
This interview will tell you the motivation behind the book and explain why Paige Agnew started writing.
Tell us about your book?
My book is titled Seven; it is a fiction, mystery, suspense-thriller with some romance. Seven tells the story of seven people whose lives come together because of a kidnapper. The story of each individual leads to the time they all come together. For example, two characters are escaping an abusive childhood home and one character is an attorney without much direction. In the book there are clues (or things that appear to be clues) that mislead reader thus building the suspense. A common thread I have recognized in this book (as in Starless Sky) is self exploration among both the teens and the adults in the book. Each of the seven characters is forced (literally) to look at their own talents and lives in order to escape. Not all of them are willing. So, will they all be freed from the grips of the kidnapper? Want to know the answer? Great, read Seven.
I see that you started writing at age 15, what was your calling?
I do not remember when my love for writing started. Perhaps it was all of the journaling expected of me during my formidable elementary school days. Maybe it was back in third grade when I would fill notebooks with stories I’d made up. I remember summer after summer using time in the car to write in my notebooks or to read. In fifth grade my teacher suggested I attend the Young Writers Conference at a local college. I attended it four years in a row and loved it. Then at 15 years old I finished filling a notebook (well, laptop by that time) with the first book I would decide to publish, Starless Sky and then Seven.
Do you plan to continue with a career in writing?
While I am a young author, I recognize the need to continue growing and learning; so, in the fall of 2011, I plan on attending college in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in English with a Creative Writing emphasis. Later, I plan to attend the number one university for Master’s degrees in Creative Writing; currently and for a while, that is the University of Iowa. I believe I will continue to focus on YA writing.
What age group would enjoy reading Seven?
While I target young adults like myself, I think that adults could enjoy this just as much. Some of the main characters are adults and the themes within it are universal.
