Interview: Yezall Strongheart

Yezall Strongheart has an infectious enthusiasm that is present in all she writes and in her interaction with her fellow authors.

Yezall is an animal lover with such a tender heart, that in a contest for ill-fated lovers, her story, Love Can Be Furry, she did not allow her animal characters to meet their ultimate end. Her writings range from a step by step how to make a Corset to Erotica.

But.. All of her books grab you, and you’re along for the ride until the last page is turned.

What inspired you to write?

The short answer is my crazy imagination. Even now I hear an off hand remark, see an interaction between people, and in seconds, I have an idea for a book and I start building it. For the actual inspiration to put it in a word document requires more of a push. The outline is mentally built but, I have to rely on my muse, to cooperate when it comes to the actual writing. The first stories I ever wrote were in school, which were written as homework. I enjoyed putting my thoughts in writing so much I started sharing stories with pen pals. I finally entered a contest with a poem and won first prize. It was just a t-shirt, but the real reward came from realizing that other people that I didn’t even know were able to appreciate what I had written. I had been writing mostly for my family or myself up until a year ago when I decided to publish.

Do you have anyone you show manuscripts to and get advice from or are you a loner doing it all yourself?

I worked solely alone for a long time and finally realized I needed help. Nothing wrong with that. People find it hard, to see their own mistakes. As an author, I think I have a responsibility to my readers to make their reading experience a pleasurable one, for both of our benefits. I had a close friend help me, but as she became too busy with other things I began to rely on online grammar checkers. They have their limits. I turned to the wonderful network of my fellow authors. We help each other in many ways. Carol Wills has been an excellent second pair of eyes to look over my docs and offer suggestions. The lovely Paula Shene has recently joined the ranks as a helper, as well. I may have the ideas but, both of you make sure I am also as error free as possible. I couldn’t thank you both more.

What genre do you normally write in? Also, is there a genre you've always wanted to write in, but don't feel you could pull it off?

I have been stretching my wings and attempting to write in different genres, to see what comes easy to me. I have found every project I start is my favorite. I have a scifi thriller coming out soon, and I am totally smitten by it. I don’t think you should limit yourself to a genre. You have to write what you feel. I haven’t found any subject that I can’t form a story for. I would have to say I think the genre of fiction would encompass what I like to write about. Non fiction involves the real world, health, politics, religion, etc. And I read to escape the real world, so writing about fictional things comes naturally. Not to say I don’t appreciate non fiction, I just don’t think it’s for me.

Do you ever base your characters on people you know?

Not so anyone would ever notice but, I think all writers do that. I have also included people who have made an impression on me in some way, even fictional ones. The names will be different but, the attitude will be evident to me. I can also recall times I have merged personalities. There is usually a common theme for women and men in my books. The main characters would be someone I would admire. The evil ones are just the opposite. I don’t think I’m alone when I say we draw from life experience for many aspects of our writing.

What advice would you give to someone who was just starting off in writing?

Just do it! If you feel the urge, then you have something to say. You will find your audience. Don’t do it because you think you will make a ton of money, that is the worse inspiration. Do it because you want to share your views, your imagination, or you just need to voice what you feel. Write what you have a passion for. Don’t be discouraged by others, they may just be jealous of what you have accomplished. Find other nurturing authors to help you along the way. It's a different world now and I believe Indie writers are a wave of the future.

Do your stories tend to have morals, or specific messages, included within them?

If there is a message or moral, it's totally unintentional. I stay away from that mostly because I write non fiction. I do like a happy ending. I like strong men who take care of the women they love but that’s about as far as I go with a message. My point is to entertain not educate., I like to provide main characters that have scruples, who in the end, do the right thing.

This question was posed by a fellow author, and I loved it so much I decided to throw it into the mix ~ Oh no! One of your characters has escaped. Luckily, I have caught them! I will interrogate them with the help of a lie detector. Welcome! Take a seat, make yourself comfortable. You will be returning to your book once this is over. What's your name, where are you from and what is your role in the book?

*Looks carefully from side to side, then leans in, whispering* I’m Laura, Laura Cromwell. I’m from the future. I work for a company named Restore. Something hideous is going on there, and my boyfriend, Carter and I, are part of a team who will put a stop to it. We are undercover with a resistance group and have infiltrated Restore’s inner sanctum. My part is risky, I’m a pawn. I have to go, they’re watching.” Laura rises, and slinks back into the shadows.

Tell us why we would enjoy reading your books?

My hope would be that I take my readers out of their own world and into mine. I hope my books say, “Relax, dear reader, leave everything behind and let me entertain you.” I know that one of my reasons to read is to escape, go somewhere I have never been, be in a different time period, etc. If I can accomplish that for my readers, I will feel successful.

Synopsis for Restore:
What would you give to bring back a deceased loved one...Everything. Restore is a company in the future that has perfected this process. The clientele are the extremely wealthy as the cost of the process is expensive. They never question exactly how the process works but, it’s general knowledge that it involves time travel. As the demand increases for the service, the companies employees become sloppy in an effort to meet the demand. People begin to notice odd occurrences. Laura Cromwell works for Restore. She is an assistant to the founder but, even she is ignorant to the hideous facts. Once she begins to question Restore’s processes, she is in danger. She and her boyfriend join an underground resistance group who knows the shocking truth. They embark on a mission full of terror and intrigue hoping to stop the madman, Dr. Moore. Laura must return and pretend to be unaffected by the truths she now knows. Carter infiltrates in another way and together they intend to bring Dr. Moore and his company down. More is revealed as they delve deeper into the plan that Dr. Moore has set in motion, having world changing results if completed. Just when they think it’s over, it’s not.
