A Season’s Prayer To St. Adelaide

Separated by a decade and millennium

And yet you persevere in times of grief and stress

Quietly walking among combatants in gloom

In your pious and reverent way seeking redress

Oh tenacious handmaiden for peace and friendship

Oh reconciler of enemies, balsam pure

Sailing with alms for the poor aboard the White Ship

Oh Empress of the Millennium, decency’s lure

Give us your Saint’s wisdom, kindness and charity

To bear the burdens of modernity in stride

To withstand the wars of our human city

To cleanse and wash away the inequities wide

Oh Saint Adelaide, intervene for us, please

Breathe into the lungs of this world, the kiss of peace.
