denial Denial
This news – so sudden –

Can't be true.

A trick, a joke:
Something fake
Created for pleasure,
Designed for pain.

It Didn't Happen
Is your mantra,
'Cause denial is
Your Novocaine.

Their arms surround you,
Words of comfort
Escape between tears.

You duck away,
Run, run like she
Told you to run
That night that
Seems so long ago.

It Didn't Happen –
They're pretending.
The folds of black
That drape the others –
No reason why,
Nothing wrong.

Glass breaks:
Someone can't take it,
Angry – All My Fault.

You fall to your knees,
She wouldn't leave,
She promised.

It can't be,
This isn't so.

You'll wake up tomorrow,
And so will she –
Back in your arms.

See, she'll laugh,
Not True!
You didn't drink
That strawberry wine,
She didn't scream, cry,
That car never crashed.

She can't be dead.

  1. Andrew J. Sacks says:

    Fine work, Victoria. Thank you!

  2. Short and to the point, a rather strong and familiar story, one which I hope will one day be a bit shorter and too the point, as your words. Thank you. Sincerely, Nancy
